Topic: SNB - Swiss National Bank

[Dow Jones] Hildebrand's departure was not a surprise, given he was under so much pressure to do so, says Ian Stannard, head of European FX strategy at Morgan Stanley. "He had to go and the market isn't too surprised," he says. EUR/CHF took a brief dive to 1.2106 before recovering almost straight away. "This won't represent a change in policy for the SNB," he adds. EUR/CHF trades at 1.2131.

[Dow Jones] Sarasin expects continuity after Hildebrand resigns, with no change to Swiss National Bank policy. "Their monetary policy will continue, it has proven a success, with inflation rates very low," says analyst Jan Poser. He also expects no change to the bank's 1.20 EUR/CHF floor. "They will not raise that. The 1.20 level has proven very effective so far, he adds. EUR/CHF trades at 1.2137.

[Dow Jones] CHF strength looks excessive, says Lloyds, and the chances of the SNB allowing EUR/CHF below 1.20 look still very low. However, the franc is unlikely to weaken much unless risk assets improve, says the bank. EUR/CHF is now at 1.2108, from its fresh overnight 3 month low of 1.2085.

Re: SNB - Swiss National Bank

One think,

“There are a couple of investigations and reports being done on the influence of the government on the bank ... which could potentially limit the independence of the SNB.”
